Fixing Slippery Surfaces with T-REX Extreme Tread Tape

Fixing Slippery Surfaces with T-REX Extreme Tread Tape

Slippery surfaces seem to abound around the house this time of year. With spring rains and storms, we seem to have more than a few spots we can’t quite keep slip-free. One spot that was particularly bad, was the ramp that goes into our shed. Since this is a spot, we keep our Mower, heavy equipment, dolly’s, and the like, it’s become a fairly big safety issue. Thankfully though, the team at T-REX has a product that can easily give you much-needed tread, right where you need it.  Let’s check out the quick application amd how I go about Fixing Slippery Surfaces with T-REX Extreme Tread Tape.

About T-REX

T-REX is a manufacturer of unique tapes and solutions that go beyond the standard to give your repairs extra strength! Today we look at their Extreme Tread Tape, but we will also look at a handful of useful products like their Waterproof Tape, their Brute Force Tape, Super Glue Tape, and their classic Duct Tape, the product that started their legacy of being a step beyond classic tapes!

Steps-

  • To start, I took measurements of the ramp and decided how many pieces of tread tape I would need, and how I wanted the spacing. I took into account what I use this shed for to make sure it would suit my needs. The big one, being able to pull the small tractor in and out without slipping. These tapes come in sets of 3 and are 2 by 8 inches.

  • Once you’ve set up your layout and decided how much you will need, it was time to clean the surface. Since my area was dry and mildew free, I simply used a blower to clean dust and debris but sweeping it off would work too! If you happen to have an area where additional cleaning is needed, you will have a bit more prep. A few options I have used in the past are simply pressure washing, a heavy-duty scrubbing with simple dish soap or you can use a chemical like bleach and water, or alcohol to clean it. Always be sure to follow the directions anytime chemicals are involved and wear proper PPE. The key here is to properly prep the surface to ensure proper adhesion.

  • Application is nothing short of a breeze, you open the package and on each piece of T-Rex Extreme Tread Tape, you will have a back paper to peel off. Once the adhesive layer is exposed, simply place it where you want it and apply pressure across the piece for a few moments as the adhesive is pressure activated.

  • There are multiple layers of grit to account for wear, but T-REX designed this tread to be ultra-long lasting and is both UV and water-resistant once applied! You may notice small bits of grit become lose during the application, this is expected with transit. As well, it is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions as well, ranging from -40 degrees to a whopping 220 degrees!
  • If you have an area you want to trim or cut the T-REX Extreme Tread Tape, you can simply score the back with a utility knife and bend the tape. Repeat until it is able to be separated.

  • When you finish applying the Tread Tape, it is good to go, and for me has been a huge asset it being able to safely store my equipment as well as walk-in and out of the shed without slipping.

Other Uses-

I will be 100% honest that I have used this in a few other ways too! I applied it to the base of a dolly to grip awkward material easier, the bottom steps of a stool, and I really think on slippery decks and steps this would be a home run of a product! Growing up with a Grandma in a wheelchair, I love that this provides an ADA compliant option too, and I wish we would have had it then! It would have made a lot of things much easier!
