Background-

Depending on where you live, you may have a significant spring season to prep for. Being in Texas, our spring season starts early and brings some significant challenges. Specifically, my area experiences heavy rain- sometimes for weeks at a time, and when it isn’t ready it is blistering hot from about April to October. I live on 3 wooded acres which means I spend a significant amount of time mowing, trimming and chain sawing my way to the summer season.

To be sure I am ready for the long season of sunshine, I try and get started with my prep work early to ensure I don’t miss a beat. I learned early on that proper maintenance of your equipment not only extended their lifespan, but also greatly improved their performance. Today I will walk you guys through a few of the STA-BIL® Products that are absolute lifesavers for me!

Rust?

One of the biggest trouble areas you can encounter with Outdoor equipment is rust. No matter how well a tool is made or what measures you have taken to prevent it, covers, etc., nature can still win the battle with rust.

One of my favorite products from STA-BIL® is their Rust Stopper. It is an easy to apply formula that can be used both preventatively to avoid rust issues as well as reactively to remove and combat existing rust. With an easy to apply formula, STA-BIL® Rust Stopper has evolved into a product I use both on my OPE, as well as inside my woodworking shop to keep my tools in great shape.

Simply Spray a light coating periodically to prevent rust. Apply liberally and allow solution to penetrate and wipe away for rusted areas. STA-BIL® Rust Stopper also lubricates to prevent sticking parts.

Bonus Tip- Because this formula is water resistant, it’s amazing on all metal and cast iron surfaces to prevent rusting from humidity.

Build- Up?

The STA-BIL® Ceramic Pro Guard is a new product this year and has quickly become a normal part of my maintenance routine! I have always struggled with buildup on my mowers. We have thick St Augustine Grass that has a wild ability to clog the mower after just a couple of days of fresh growth. While I pride myself on taking care of my equipment, sometimes you must turn to the experts!

Ceramic Pro Guard follows suit of common detailing experts and provides a ceramic coating that prevents buildup of dirt and grass from collecting. After cleaning, simply spray the bottom of your deck and allow the coating to cure, 24 hours is usually sufficient.

The best part of Ceramic Pro Guard is that you can easily hose off any grass or dirt super quickly as the debris won’t stick to the coating. Quick cleanup is always a win for me! As well, Ceramic Guard provides protection from rust and corrosion and can be used both on metal and plastic. If you live in an area that sees snow, STA-BIL® Ceramic Pro Guard also keeps your snow blowers clog free too!

Bonus Tip- STA-BIL® Ceramic Pro Guard is a phenomenal treatment for detailing your mower too! Spray on, wipe on with a microfiber cloth and keep your tools looking like new all season long!

Dull Blades?

STA-BIL® Blade Guard is another new introduction to the STA-BIL® lineup that I was really curios about! To be honest, I wasn’t sure this product was truly needed on the market, but to say I was proven wrong is an understatement!

The Blade Guard is designed to clean and lubricate both manual blades like hacksaws, small axes, and loppers, as well as tools like hedge trimmers. We know garden equipment is expensive and the key to keeping any blade cutting well is to keep it clean and lubricated, but when working in your garden, a lot of lubricants aren’t safe for your plants, especially if like me, you enjoy growing your own vegies! Thankfully, Blade Guard is designed to be safe for this application and you can rest easy that you aren’t damaging your plants.

One tool I really liked using the STA-BIL® Blade Guard on is my Hedge Trimmer. These tools are notorious for rusting and collecting debris, especially when trimming certain shrubs and trees. Blade Guard made a world of difference on my hedge trimmer almost instantly, good as new!

Like most STA-BIL® products, Blade Guard provides protection from rust and corrosion, and can be used on cutting surfaces of all types. Simply brush away and debris and apply enough Blade Guard to coat the cutting surface. You’re ready to get to work after just a few minutes!

Bonus Tip-

One of my most used tools are Shears! I cut through a lot of adhesives, both on wood veneer material and double-sided tapes. Applying Blade Guard to my shears made a massive difference in preventing adhesive build up on the shear edge- meaning they stayed sharp longer and prevented the hassle of frequent cleaning.

I have used STA-BIL® for many years, and in fact remember my dad using it when I was a child. While STA-BIL® is known for their fuel additives, their lineup of maintenance products has really transformed my OPE maintenance process for the better. As well, you have year-round applications for most products, making them convenient to keep on your shop shelf.
