Complicated glue ups come with the territory! Work Complicated glue ups come with the territory! Working with this herringbone piece had me reminiscing to the initial glue up, it was full of hiccups! What’s your trickiest glue up? It’s wild that nearly a year ago this was the start of this build though. I had such a distinct vision of what I was making this for, then changed it entirely. If I’m being honest, this is probably one of the most technical/complicated but artistic builds I’ve ever done and I’m so excited to be nearly done with my first build as part of the @thebuilderschallenge team! #repost I love a good complicated glue up. No- I really mean that. It’s like the rare occasion you get to pull out all of that knowledge you have stored from years of advanced math and figure out which way is going to give you the most pressure and at what angle. This was just a couple of the 10+ clamps I had on this section of the Herringbone Butcher Block. I glued several small sections using a jig- definitely the best call- and then glued these together using pure creativity. Thankfully this main portion is now safely glued- but it isn’t a quick process for sure! What have been y’alls most complicated Glue Ups? Inlays like a boss! Actually- this is a cool metho Inlays like a boss! Actually- this is a cool method for inlays, using a 23 GA Pinner! What’s your favorite use for a nailer that people don’t really think about?? There’s a million ways to do this- but let’s say you were really tight on material. Rather than cut strips for the full width, you use smaller strips on the edge, and fill with another hardwood in the center. You’ll never notice this, but it’s a great trick when you have really expensive or limited materials you want to add to a piece. The real star of the show here is my trusty @sencobrands Pin Nailer though- this is my absolute favorite nailer and it’s one I use way more often than people realize. Here it was the perfect way to temporarily clamp the edge strips in place so there was no shifting during clamping. Since there’s no head on the nails, you have no impact in the joint- and make this so much easier! Be sure to keep the pins a fair distance from the edge, just to prevent any exposure in final finishing! Shop expansion- here we come!!! 😍😍😍 The Shop expansion- here we come!!! 😍😍😍 There are really no words- it’s crazy how long this has been in the works and just how much planning has gone into this process! Each and every person who supports me, whether in my personal life or with my business, is a massive piece to this puzzle! The support, love and constant inspiration keep me going in the tough moments and to really celebrate in the really awesome victories! Thank you all! Who is excited for this build? Biggest one yet! Shop addition will add about 450 sq feet, and the breezeway will be enclosed at the same time to add a massive pantry/mudroom! @finalframing will be doing the Framing on this shop! Lumber purchased from @84lumber. I am still working through roof options, and need to weed through flooring and insulation and get it ordered, but we’re so close!!! Nothing- and I mean nothing will make you apprecia Nothing- and I mean nothing will make you appreciate clean fresh water, than going without it for a bit. When we purchased this home, it came with a water filter and softening system, only it never worked! I’ll never forget the orange water, and it was so hard you couldn’t see through the shower glass from the staining. After messing with the existing system for a while, I finally threw the towel in and installed a system from @aosmithatlowes - super easy install and worked instantly. I was completely and utterly amazed during the first bath after it- crystal clear and oh so clean! What is a home update you’ve done that was worth it ten times over?? I will be re-installing this system soon! Our huge Winter storm knocked ours out of commission, and was a good reminder of just how well this system worked! I upgraded the slab in this process so I can enclose the system too, so stay tuned for some updates there! Work continues on this sweet Cedar Live Edge Benc Work continues on this sweet Cedar Live Edge Bench! So much happening right now, that some gets relegated to my Dining Room! Here I was showing Lisa how to fill knots and large cracks with @totalboat High Performance Epoxy. Will need several pours for their size but was completely amazed at how incredible the color on this wood is! I don’t often build with Cedar myself, but Lisa picked a heck of a slab for this one! May have to start bringing Cedar into the shop more often!
