Steps-
Fixing Damaged Drainage with T-REX Waterproof Tape
- First, I surveyed the repair to determine the best approach to a secure and long-lasting fix. Once I determined the worst areas we needed to cover, I measured the tape to put these in the center. This tape can easily be layered for ultimate coverage of off areas too!
- Once I had a game plan in place, the next step was to clean the area of dirt and debris to ensure good adhesion.
- I used heavy duty scissors to cut the T-Rex Waterproof Tape to size. The tape itself is similar to duct tape in thickness but is a rubbery texture designed to expand up to 700% so is not designed to be ripped easily.
- I peeled the backing off and carefully applied the tape over the damaged areas. What’s great about this product is that it is sticky, and this high adhesive property ensures the repair will last for years to come!
- When positioned correctly, it is time to get to rubbing. Like most adhesives, this is pressure activated, so don’t be afraid to use your muscle power to make sure this product is stuck on extra well! This was a great product for piping like this because the high flexibility allowed it to penetrate into the grooves of the corrugated plastic.
Wrap Up
Fixing Damaged Drainage with T-REX Waterproof Tape
Drainage pipes like this are commonly damaged from string trimmers, mowers and everyday wear and tear. This particular drainage pipe was connected to a gutter and removed a large amount of water from our gutters and redirects it to another location on our property. In Texas we get a lot of rain, and flooding is a huge issue. With this cracked drainage pipe, we were noticing a lot of debris being mixed into the water flow as well as water just pouring out from the gutters above. If left alone, this could have been a major problem as it wouldn’t have been able to drain once enough debris entered the pipe and clogged it. Since we are redirecting the water to protect the home from flooding, this was a big deal!
One of the issues we were having is that replacing a pipe like this correctly isn’t as easy as it seems- eventually our drainage will need to be revamped but this is a perfect way to stretch out the existing systems useable life.
Thankfully, we have had a few rainstorms since the T-REX Waterproof Tape was applied, and I’m thrilled at how well it has worked! With UV resistance and temperature tolerances from -70 degrees all the way to 200 degrees, it should be a repair that lasts for many years to come!
What is great about a product like this is you could also use it for other repairs, like summer water toys that get ripped, outdoor balls and a range of small things that seem to arise in our daily life. As well, T-REX Waterproof Tape can even help with things like roof leaks or leaky pipes until they can be properly repaired, this could save you a lot of headache and damages if you ever find yourself in a tough spot!
