SKIL has been a household name for mechanic & woodworking tools for a long time, and with good reason. What you may not know is that SKIL has brought their technology to Outdoor Tools too. We have talked about several of their 40V OPE equipment, but let’s take a look at their newest 20V Model in the SKIL 20V Pole Saw Review.

About the Tool

SKIL 20V Pole Saw Review

Seasonal weather along with the natural growth of shrubs and trees can keep you working in your yard more than you would probably like. I know for me, I enjoy yard work but don’t necessarily want it to occupy a ton of my time. In the last few years, we have seen a lot of strides made in improving OPE tools, in general, to keep your yard looking fresh while adding the convenience of battery power and smaller footprints. There are so many different brands, features, and choices to fit all your maintenance needs so there is no shortage of great options.

One specific item, the Pole Saw is a must for anyone owning property or who have any sort of mature trees. While it used to be a rare tool to find in a homeowners garage, they’ve become a common tool almost everyone can reach for to tackle their yard maintenance.  A pole saw is essentially a small chainsaw on a pole, sounds simple but there really is more to a tool like this that is important. Balance, power and affordability all rank high on the things I consider when looking at a tool like this. There is no need to bring out the chainsaw. You won’t have to search for reputable lawn care crews. A pole saw will allow you to trim, cut back or shape limbs and branches to a more manageable size. Let’s take a look at the SKIL 20 Volt Pole Saw.

My Thoughts

SKIL 20V Pole Saw Review

SKIL 20V Pole Saw Review

If you read my SKIL 40V Pole Saw Review you know I was oddly shocked by the power and performance it held. I shouldn’t have been though, as SKIL has done a phenomenal job of relaunching their cordless tool lineup, and their OPE tools are no exception. SKIL has a huge line of cordless tools on their 20V platform so I was excited to see they are offering more OPE on it as well as on their 40V Battery platform.

SKIL starts their 20V Pole Saw with their 20V battery. While some may initially wonder if utilizing a smaller battery is the right call on a tool that demands power, I can tell you the 20V Battery was more than sufficient for the tool. It was impressive how well it cut through limbs and branches. As well, the smaller battery offers a lighter weight tool- so it’s an ideal size for homeowners and occasional users, and when using for an extended period of time, that decrease in weight will be something you’re grateful for. The 8 inch Bar and Chain offer significant cut capacity for the vast majority of applications too.

Another one of my personal favorite features on the SKIL 20 Volt Polesaw is the automatic oiling chamber. These have become more common over the years but it’s a feature I always note as significant as it’s one that can drastically extend the tool life by oiling the bar and chain routinely vs waiting for the user to periodically lubricate the tool. The chamber is visible during use so as long as you are aware to check the gauge before and after use, you’re in good shape. Additionally, the SKIL 20 Volt Polesaw has a 6 1/2 foot pole standard, and an extender is included to provide an additional 3 1/2 feet. With a total of 10 feet of reach, there isn’t much this saw won’t be able to tackle while also remaining easy to control and maneuver.

The SKIL 20V Pole Saw is an excellent choice for users looking to expand their homeowner OPE collection and need the ability to prune trees. The SKIL Polesaw is easy to store, easy to operate and has a solid lineup of features and capacity to tackle a fairly wide range of needs. SKIL also priced their Pole Saw exceedingly well, making it a great investment.
