The Bottom Line-
If you're in the market for a new Router, the SKIL Router is certainly one to consider. With some new state-of-the-art features and an incredible value to boot, it is a phenomenal choice for almost every user imaginable.
SKIL has been a household name for a long time, and with good reason. In recent years, SKIL has gone through a massive re-imagination that reminds you of all the things we love about the iconic brand. One of my favorite shop tools, the Router is on deck today. Let’s take a look at what makes this model from SKIL special in the SKIL Router Review.
About the Tool
SKIL Router Review
Routers are sort of the carpenter’s bread and butter. They add detail, can create joints and flush trim better than any other tool. You would be hard-pressed to find a tool more versatile than a router in any shop, especially for woodworkers like me.
Routers have come a long way in the last decade, with the addition of new safety features and more advanced motors, they are capable of doing more than ever before and with additional protections to boot. SKIL offers a lot in this Router set, so let’s hop into the review portion and see what this Router brings to the table!
Standout Features
SKIL Router Review
The first thing you will notice about the SKIL is definitely the LCD display. I honestly wasn’t sure how useful this feature would be, but I have to say being able to quickly set your router speeds and see feedback on the recommended material is a thing of beauty.
A soft start motor is a must for me, something I am thrilled to see SKIL include on this Router. By easing into the full RPM’s on your router you ensure a more comfortable use but also help prevent initial bit grab that is seen traditionally in routers.
Electronic controls are integrated into this Routers motor seamlessly, with excellent speed control, quick bit stopping, and adequate power for any task.
The SKIL Router comes with a fixed base and a plunge base, adding additional versatility to an already versatile tool. The edge guide is also a well-appreciated feature for precision.
The Plunge base packs easy adjustments and comfortable plunge-action together for a winning setup.
Both 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch collets are included with this router, which expands bit options and applications drastically.
The adjustments are user-friendly and easy to use, with both macro and micro-adjustments and a well-designed lock for repeatable accuracy.
The Dust collection adapter is quick and easy to install and remove for a cleaner job all around.
Where to find it
SKIL Router Review
You can snag the SKIL Router with both the Fixed base and the Plunge base on Amazon for $139.00. Without a doubt, this router is an incredible value for both the entry-level user or for the pro looking to add an additional router to their lineup.
My Thoughts
SKIL Router Review
With technology on tools rapidly evolving, we see our fair share of somewhat silly extras we could do without, but SKIL has done an excellent job of keeping this Router ahead of its time but still very user-friendly. Everything you could want in a router, from a soft start to the electronic controls is packed into this SKIL router. What’s more though, is the addition of the LCD screen is a serious win for users of all kinds.
SKIL set up a great series of adjustments and controls to make the Router easy to operate and intuitive. With friendly-to-use depth settings, easy change bits, and comfortable handles, there is really nothing to dislike in this router. There is sufficient power for both soft and hardwoods and operates well with both simple flush trim bits and more complicated ogees and the like.
The SKIL Router is truly a showstopper and a tool I am thrilled to have in my shop. Plus, when edging it next to more premier lines, it competes well at an incredible value. This tool certainly makes a statement and I hope it is the first of many well-equipped carpentry tools we see from SKIL.
