Bosch Bulldog Extractor Review

I recently reviewed the new Bosch Cordless Bulldog here on Tool Girl’s Garage, and to say the least that tool impressed me. As I mentioned throughout that review, Bosch simultaneously launched a complimenting Dust Extractor that is a real game changer in the world of concrete. Because I felt this tool was a special launch, I opted to review it separately. Let’s get into that right here in the Bosch Bulldog Extractor Review.

Rotary Hammers are a well-loved and regarded tools in the concrete and general construction industry. The multipurpose workhorses have a wide range of uses but have one distinct negative, the production of harmful dust. Virtually all concrete tools have the same risk, which is why dust extraction is such a hot topic in concrete tools. We have seen a lot of advances in this realm, such as refined HEPA vacuums designed to meet the most stringent government regulations. As well, a wide variety of accessories for heavy dust producing tools, allow better dust collection than ever before.

Bosch took their Bulldog and made it cordless, but lost no performance. The struggle is though, what good is a cordless rotary hammer without a convenient way for users to maintain compliance and safety standards without losing portability? Bosch took this to heart and decided a cordless solution was needed to fill the gap, and fill the gap they did.

A Little About the Brand-

Bosch is a well-rounded company. As a global powerhouse, Bosch has its hands in a wide range of fields. Since beginning in the late 1800s Bosch has been involved in everything from automotive, to air conditioning, to technology and of course, Power Tools.

As one of the largest manufacturers of Professional Power Tools on a Global level, Bosch has seen considerable success. This year especially has seen incredible launches and expansions to some well-loved tools here in the US. A few that stick out to me is the new 12V Flexi-Click System has been well received here in the US, as has their Track Saw. The Track Saw, in particular, has created considerable buzz, giving even the most discernable users a lot to smile about.

For me, the 1-inch Cordless Bulldog was also a huge launch for Bosch in 2019. It’s a tool that remains a staple on any General Contractors truck, and a mainstay for anyone working in the demolition of concrete. This extractor though takes the Cordless Bulldog and makes it even better!

Value-

I’ll be honest, I would pay multiples of what this tool costs for what it can do. For those seeking the benefits of cordless power tools, namely convenience and portability, this tool will be a perfect fit. For users wanting a truly cordless Rotary Hammer, this tool is a no brainer. It provides a completely cordless concrete drilling tool, that manages to maintain OSHA compliance for Silica dust extraction. I think Bosch did an amazing job producing a tool that combined exceptional performance without pricing it too high.

You can find this tool on Amazon with a 4.0 Battery and charger for $199.00. I would also triple check Lowes and Acme Tools for great deals when bought in combination with the Bosch Cordless Bulldog.

My Thoughts-

The thing that impressed me the most about this tool was plain and simple, it performed. Not only did it do an amazing job collecting the dust from each hole, but it also enhanced the Bulldogs speed and ease of drilling as less dust equals less resistance. This latter result was somewhat unexpected, as I initially focused more on purely the safety benefits of using this tool. The ability to enhance performance, well that was a welcomed bonus.

Here you will see clearly how much of a difference the extractor truly makes. The holes drilled with the extractor turned on are clean and dust free. The holes drilled with the extractor off, well you can see there was a significant amount of dust remaining in the hole as well as out of them. This would be expected of normal concrete drilling conditions, but the extractor made a huge difference.

A few things I think stood out to me the most feature wise- first I loved the versatility they built right into the tool. Starting with the two dust eyes and the extension. Having options based on bit size enhances the ability to remove dust and improves the overall performance. The aluminum guide rail serves multiple purposes, namely, it provides the channel for the dust to be suctioned through, but it also did an impeccable job supporting the tool during use. Even with the additional weight of the extractor, the mechanism of retraction felt smooth and easy to use, a nod to the guide rail being well designed.

At first glance, this tool seems like it will be heavy, but that isn’t the case at all. In is surprisingly lightweight even when it reaches max capacity for dust or when batteries are attached. Emptying the canister is a breeze, as is cleaning the filter after use. It is easy to attach in to the Bulldog, being simple and uncomplicated. The handle also did a great job of allowing it to feel comfortable during use and provided maneuverability. This is particularly helpful if working overhead or in tight quarters.

I also think the tool was a breeze to attach to the Bulldog Itself. Often times tools like these lose their luster if they become cumbersome to mount, but even on the first try, it took no time at all to be up and running. It was designed to be simple and convenient, even on busy job sites.

I really and truly loved this tool. I was curious when I first saw this tool how it would really perform when it came down to it. Sometimes accessory tools seem to not quite work out the way you would hope, but this was a hole in one. Ultimately it exceeded my expectations and has me curious to investigate some of Bosch’s other dust extraction tools. A huge thumbs up on this Bosch Bulldog Dust Extractor, it’s mobile, enhances safety and improves performance. I couldn’t have asked for more!
